Let’s Talk About Comics!
Comics, comic strips, and the funny pages, in my humble opinion, play an important role in our lives. In recent years, comic strips have been reduced from our papers, or at least from my local paper, and I find it a sad situation. The funny pages were always at the end of the paper because they provided comic relief; your reward so to speak for having weathered all the news of politics, wars, and poverty.
Classic strips like Pogo, Peanuts, or Calvin and Hobbes go beyond the punch line to make us take a look at ourselves. Pogo’s famous line, “We have met the enemy and he is us” was tacked to my mother’s kitchen bulletin board for years. As a kid, I didn’t really get the joke. Years later, after it had it sunk into my psyche, I realized what a clever commentary it was. I have often expanded on the line in my personal life to say “I have met the enemy and he is me.”
Speaking of comic relief, this week’s new pages have been posted to www.contentmentisforcows.com. Like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/contentmentisforcows
