Drawing to a Close
With a jumble of feelings ranging from relief to chagrin to ‘I’m gonna miss you’, I am signing off indefinitely from weekly creations of Contentment is for Cows. I will however, continue to produce this weekly blog.
It is the strain on my time that is to blame. The thing is, as much as I enjoy creating the comics and the stories, I don’t enjoy the weekly deadline. It takes the edge off the joy of creating when I am painting to ‘get it done’ so I can go catch up on my laundry…
And there are other projects beckoning– other artistic pursuits I would like to explore, such as painting something new and different, or getting my Mother’s diaries into paperback form.
In my rosy vision of the future, I am blithely completing these projects and still creating new comics. There are details in the world of Echo Lake that have been left loose… There is a son still looking for his Mom, are Harold and Bella ever going to get together, and what about Felix and his crush on ‘Chili Pepper’? And every time I create a new chapter, there are new characters I want to hold onto and go back and catch up with. And who wants to say goodbye permanently to Muttley and MacLubs? Pas moi.
So, Dear Readers, please consider today’s concluding scene of Chapter Ten as an Au Revoir to all of our characters and not a good bye.
It has been a source of personal joy to let everyone in on my imagination, to share my drawing journey, as well as my musings and thoughts in writing the blog.
And to those of you who told me my weekly posts and comics were an inspiration? I will humbly admit to finding those words extremely rewarding.
Thank you to everyone!
Enough of the blather, let’s go see the conclusion to Chapter Ten!
I’m sorry to read the words ‘the end’ but I completely understand needing a break. There are so many interesting projects that deserve attention. Once an online commitment feels onerous, it’s time to take stock. I post less frequently on my blog when I’m busy with other pursuits. Do what brings pleasure — stay strong, say calm and be kind! Life is short!
Wonderful words to live by, thank you!
Aaaah! I’m gonna miss all the characters, not to mention MacLubs and Muttley! But I can understand the terror reign of deadlines and their deadening effect on creativity….. When you’re enthused again I look forward to the return of the MacBailies!
Thank you for all your help, your tireless and useful editing, and of course your inspiration. The MacBaillies shall ride again!
Thanks for sharing this with everyone – it was fun to read each week. You did a great job – it is always great to see people’s creative juices at work. Good luck on your future projects. How exciting!
I do intend to use the blog to continue to talk about creativity and give updates on my projects.
Thank you!
Awww. You know i understand completely but who else is going to come up with such prizes as “it’s my hellmutt”? Really. Yeah it makes sense to visit when the urge is upon rather than when it must be forced. But that Chapter Ten… Brilliant! Going out on a high note!
Awwww, thank you! That is high praise indeed. So glad you enjoyed ‘A Little Haunting, A Little Taunting’. I will continue the blog of course and the MacBaillies will be back, I am sure.
