Learning Curves
Like the Irish proverb that says “May the wind be always at your back”, I think there should be a proverb that says “May all your learning curves be gentle slopes…” Learning to draw was a learning curve fraught with frustrations and at any time I could have chosen to walk away and nobody would have been any the wiser. It was between me and the blank piece of paper.
I am currently engaged with another learning curve and that is managing the web site…
My brilliant niece, designed the web site for me. She wrote the code that makes the website ‘work’. Then, she had the considerable task of teaching me how to edit the code myself. I was diligently taking notes while she might as well have been speaking Greek. At one point, I put my pencil down and wailed, “But I still need time to draw the pages I’m supposed to upload ya know!!”
Prior to this project, I had no idea what ‘code’ was. I thought the learning curve to managing the comics website by myself would be far too steep to conquer, but now here I am editing code every week when I upload new pages.
The thing about learning curves is that they can only stay parabolic for so long or you will either drop off, or the curve levels off. So why bother being intimidated by a learning curve?
