Leonard Cohen’s song ‘Anthem’ has a refrain; 

There is a crack in everything

That’s how the light gets in.

I will not attempt to discuss what Mr. Cohen had in mind with either the song or the refrain, but those words are my favourite Leonard Cohen quote.  To me, it is the crack in your mind –we all need just that little bit of light to come in and illuminate our way of looking at things. 

We need a cracked mind to challenge our thinking when we say “No”, or “I don’t like that’ without considering why.  That’s the role of that little crack in your mind –it just might make you pause, let a little light in, and consider saying ‘yes’ instead.  And then who knows what a little light might bring in with it?
