Learn to Paint Like a Child
Picasso once said he spent his entire life learning to paint like a child. When I first heard this, I admit, I did not get it. Picasso was an expert, why would he want to paint like a child?
I can’t put my finger on when his meaning finally dawned on me, but I believe I understand it now.
He was referring to the ability to ‘do’ without judgement, or self-consciousness; to be totally in the moment with your paintbrush, your pen, piano, guitar, your acting, what ever it is for you.
We all have experienced those moments periodically, I am sure. The ability to maintain that moment, that magic; to be able to bring it forth at will — well I can understand why Picasso spent a lifetime trying to learn it.
