…and sometimes it doesn’t.

This is my favourite movie quote of all time.  It lends itself to a variety of circumstances.

The quote is from the movie Little Big Man with Dustin Hoffman and Chief Dan George.  Chief Dan George’s character feels it is time for him to die.  He goes up to the sacred ridge. He performs all the necessary rituals, says all the right incantations.  He lies down, folds his arms, and waits.  Nothing happens.  He gets up and goes back down to camp.  Dustin Hoffman’s character, knowing he had gone up to the ridge to die, asks “What happened?”.  Chief Dan George’s character shrugs and says, “Sometimes the magic works and sometimes it doesn’t.”

Sometimes the magic of my drawing works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Sometimes the magic of my cooking works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Sometimes fill-in-the-blank works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

You see?  Tis a most useful quote.
