“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”
Albert Einstein
Einstein’s definition of insanity sums up how I’ve been dealing with the third week of tech problems with this blog site.
When my host server deleted the site (through miscommunication on my part) they warned me there may be a glitch or two after it was restored. Sure enough there was a glitch. Not all email subscribers were receiving the published posts to their inbox. I searched diligently for what could be the problem. Everything seemed to be in order. I clicked and cursed and then I clicked and cursed some more. The host server assured me this was not their doing. They signed off on the issue.
Clicking and whining remained my go-to strategy. Cleverly worded curses were temporarily soothing, but totally ineffective.
I came across a possible solution but it meant deactivating and reactivating an installed system. Supposedly I would not lose any data. It would be a harmless mini re-boot.
Sure, but I can trust that?
When I create and publish a post, I feel good. Fiddling about in the weeds of WordPress takes all the joy out of the process.
If I wasn’t willing to trust this re-boot, I was stuck spinning my wheels. If I tried it and lost data, I’d be deeper into the woods and ever more frustrated. I don’t want to lose subscribers because I goofed. Worse, I don’t want to bore my readers any more than I’m bored trying to figure this out.
With a short salutation to the gods and goddesses of technology and apologies for so much cursing, I clicked on the button and hoped for the best.
As soon as I did I felt better. I won’t know for sure if the fix was successful until this post is published but it was a relief to try something new. Hopefully all subscribers receive this and we can all move on.
Click a new button. Just the sound of it is kind of fun. The next time I’m frustrated and cursing too much I’ll remember to search for a new button to click.
Stay safe everyone.
Hi Anne. I have always thought of buying the button from Staples that reads…”That was easy!” I think it would be very satisfyingly. I remember a slide from an educational conference that rings true for me. “Learning isn’t difficult. It is not learning.”
That is so true. Thank you.
Your patience paid off!
Ha! With all that cursing I don’t know if I’d call it patience. Persistance maybe. Thank you Barb.
I feel your frustration. It takes courage to click on the button!
Thank you. I used to do more of this sort of thing all the time, but the site had been functioning so well, I never ventured into the ‘weeds’ anymore. Way out of practice.
