The Privacy of Your Mind
What goes on in the privacy of your mind?
Are there times when you mind is saying one thing and your physical voice and face are saying something else?
There are times, when the privacy of your mind comes in handy, as I said in the You Should post. (Listening to ‘you should’ advice whilst thinking ‘you should shut up’.) And then there are those occasions when it would be inappropriate, perhaps unkind, unwise, unnecessary, or a fireable offense to speak the truth of what is actually going through your mind.
Learning to keep one’s mouth shut is simply a normal part of maturity, but more importantly, the privacy of your mind can be a powerful tool.
Viktor Frankl was a holocaust survivor. His book, Man’s Search for Meaning describes his experiences as an inmate in a concentration camp. He came to realize that even in the most brutal of circumstances, a person can find meaning in their existence. It was his thoughts, in the privacy of his mind, that gave him the strength to endure his circumstances.
The privacy of your mind and how you use it — food for thought.
