On Being a Masterpiece, Part Two

The Danish Artist Bertha Wegmann Painting a Portrait

I ended last week’s post with “And sometimes, it takes a lifetime to create a masterpiece”.

And there’s the rub, just as you are morphing into your version of your own masterpiece, you are old…

For starters, as long as you have your wits, and your mobility, (scooters count as mobile), let’s drop the judgement about being ‘old’. Secondly, it is a challenge to be the best version of yourself at any age.

Can a twenty-something person be a ‘masterpiece’?  Sure. Why not? To say no would be a form of reverse ageism. From a more mature perspective, those of us who are well past the sunny side of twenty know that there is much change ahead. The point is to be as fully developed toward your ‘masterpiece’ as you can with what experience and tools you have at the time.

I suppose that anyone who is engaged in becoming a masterpiece, at any age, is already a masterpiece. It comes down to awareness –the thoughtfulness to consider yourself as a work of art in progress.

Right now, I am going to work on choosing a lighter topic…
