The Way You Do ONE Thing…

The poet Maya Angelou offers the advice, “Don’t Commit to a relationship until you see how that person handles lost luggage.”   She continues with  a long and extensive list of life’s frustrations — situations where you would be able to see how the other person handles themselves through any myriad of modern life’s  ‘screw-ups’.  The lost luggage example is my favourite, but other examples could include being stuck in traffic, no access to wi-fi, a baby crying on a plane, the waiter mixing up orders, and on and so on.

I know golfers who say you don’t really know a person until you play a round of golf with them.  The game provides ample opportunity to observe how a person deals with frustrations, or whether they can be patient with others.

Observe before you commit, or accept a job offer, or offer a job, or marry.

The wisdom in this is not new, nor is it unique to Maya Angelou and golfers.

There is a saying in Buddhism that they way you do one thing is the way you do everything.  In other words, you need only observe a person dealing with one frustration and you know how they deal with all their frustrations… (or maybe how you handle your own).

By far the best way to handle this comic series and this blog is to sign up via email… And the best way to improve someone else’s Sunday is to forward this blog and encourage them to sign up too. Thank you in advance…
