Online Dating, Round Two

Online Dating, Round Two

I’m fond of saying “People are people everywhere you go.” It seems that is especially true for men and online dating.

I’m trying a new dating site that is designed by women for women. The rules are a little different, there are more safety features, there are cutesy bells and whistles, but… it’s still online dating. There are the same frustrations — I’ve been ghosted once already! Serves me right for signing up on April Fool’s Day.

When I look back on my first attempt — I was such a newbie. This time I know what to expect. I have a much clearer idea of what I’m looking for and I’m clearer on how I will present myself.

There is a Jules Feiffer cartoon I have remembered for decades. A young couple is seated at a table in a restaurant and the woman is saying, “When I first met you I thought your eyes were too close together. Then, I fell in love with you and it didn’t matter that your eyes were too close together. Now your eyes are looking too close together again.”

Should that same couple stay together in a long term relationship, I like to think of her overlooking those faulty eyes, and then seeing those faulty eyes, and then overlooking them, again, and again and again. Isn’t that a big part of what a relationship takes?

Right now, I’m encouraging myself to swipe right on the guy whose eyes are too close together…

Stay safe everyone.
