The Socials
Too much social media leads to social tedium. I use Facebook and Twitter but I’ve never even looked at Instagram; it seems like another thing to have to follow and enough of my time gets sucked into the vortex of the screen.
I like my Facebook because it at least is personal. I know most of my friends and get a kick out of their posts and it’s fun to have a little dialogue now and again with someone you haven’t seen for decades.
Which brings me to Twitter. Am I the only one who finds it hard to watch something that brings tears to your eyes, followed by a kitty in sunglasses?
My Twitter feed was just so broad it started to feel like channel surfing — just enough to catch your boredom and on to the next thing. To solve this, I have started following authors; I know others who follow sports and only sports, news junkies follow journalists, and so on. Twitter and Instagram could be used for forensic psychological profiles… and come to think of it, of course they are… or at least for advertising purposes.
My change to following writers has definitely boosted my interest in Twitter, but alas, it’s also boosted the vortex into which time disappears.
Can’t have everything.
