Ahhh, a Quiet Web Page…

quietIs is just me, or has anybody else noticed how ‘bratty’ web pages have become?  I mean the kind of brattiness that demands your attention — the tugging on your shirtsleeve while you are trying to talk sort of brattiness.

I for one, enjoy concentrating.  I like that moment of settling in to focus on something that requires my full attention.  I like the promise of a good read after I come across an article that looks to be intriguing.  So, I do not like to have that moment interrupted by a ‘pop-up’.

The purpose of web site pop-ups varies.  Usually they are requests to become a member of the site –which is especially annoying if I already am a member.  There are pop-ups to sign up for the newsletter.  There are pop-ups requesting you to complete a survey about your experience on the web site…

I can only speak for myself here, but I would be far and away more likely to sign up, or participate in a survey if the web site just left me to experience what it offers in a quiet manner.  Let me read the article in peace.  If the content is compelling, I will sign up.  If the web experience was indeed unique and pleasant, I will click on the survey button.  No pop-up nagging necessary.

…Quickly, conveniently and quietly, I offer you Dear Readers, this week’s installment of Contentment is for Cows… in which we conclude Chapter Seven, “Guts Don’t Lie”.

…Shhh, if you haven’t already, you can make your Sundays just that much more fun by signing up for this weekly blog.

…Hush… we have Facebook and Twitter too.

Enjoy!
